A woman has sadly died in hospital following a serious crash that is now being investigated by the Forensic Crash Unit.

The 81-year-old from Maryborough suffered critical injuries as a result of the collision which occurred on Friday, September 15 at 12.35pm.

Initial investigations indicate that a LandCruiser was heading west on the Warrego Highway when it collided with a HiLux which was towing a caravan at the time.

A passenger in the LandCruiser, the 81-year-old woman, suffered critical injuries and was flown to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane.

She remained in hospital and was fighting for her life until she sadly passed away on Sunday morning.

Paramedics arrived on scene at Jackson North, east of Roma, at 12.43pm on Friday.

A Queensland Ambulance Spokeswoman confirmed paramedics worked to stabilise the female patient at the scene.

Two additional patients, a man and woman both in their 50s, were transported to Roma Hospital as a precaution.

The Warrego Highway was shut down to allow for the helicopter to land and the road has since reopened to traffic in both directions.
