Snowflakes in Stanthorpe 2025 on track to be a sell-out, with ticket sales through the roof ahead of the three-day event

Beanies, gloves and jackets will be easier to spot than Wally at southeast Queensland’s popular winter festival this weekend, with ticket sales through the roof.

It will take more than ferocious winds to halt the Granite Belt’s favourite biennial winter festival, with thousands prepared to face frosty temperatures for a chance to play in the snow.

Snowflakes in Stanthorpe kicks off on Friday with stallholders in the CBD, ahead of a weekend of events which will be held at Stanthorpe Showgrounds.

Event organiser Helen Gosney said despite losing a day to wild weather, the team was back on track to kickstart the 2025 event.

“We’re full steam ahead with just some final touches to go,” she said.

Mrs Gosney said ticket sales had picked up in recent weeks, with more than 6000 tickets sold online and more available at the gate.

The event is expected to attract up to 13,000 across the three days, with accommodation in the area having sold out months in advance.

Event highlights include the much-anticipated snowfield which opens on Saturday, where toboggans will be ready to be towed, giant snowglobes and inflatables will also keep all ages entertained.

While frosty morning temperatures are expected on Friday and Saturday, Bureau of Meteorology’s Helen Reid said the region is unlikely to catch a glimpse of real snow.

“Daytime temperatures are looking much warmer with a top of 18 on Saturday, while some showers are expected on Sunday, they’ll be coming from the north so it will still be quite warm,” she said.

Ms Reid said Sunday’s raining weather will see those frosty mornings disappear, with Monday’s early morning temperatures expected to be about five degrees.

Granite Belt residents were lucky to catch a glimpse of snow flurries last winter, with Spicers Peak to the east also catching the stunning event on camera.
