A 22-year-old woman has died in a single-vehicle crash at Morgan Park near Warwick in the Southern Downs.

Police said the woman was travelling westbound on Warwick-Killarney Rd about 7.55pm on Friday when her vehicle left the roadway.

The woman, the sole occupant and driver, sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

She was identified as Warwick woman Melita Cupit who was also former Miss Junior Dalby Showgirl in 2017.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating and urged anyone who may have dashcam footage of the crash or the moments leading up to it to contact police.

News of the crash has resulted in a flood of messages of sympathy from locals on the Warwick Daily News Facebook page.

Many have commented in general on the deaths of young people at this time of the year.

“I was just saying this the other day every year the last couple of months of every year a high percentage of young people seem to lose their lives in this area on the roads and for all sorts of reasons,’’ Amber Dennise O‘Reilly posted.

“So many families are suffering and at this time of year it's the worst in this area.”

Many noted how many crashes there had been in the region in recent weeks.

Michael Hunter joined others in offering his condolences to the family of the young woman, saying the death was so sad being ‘so close to Christmas’

The crash follows a horror run of accidents in the region including the death of a popular campdrafter, William Turner, on the Cunningham Highway at Gadfield.

The crash happened last Sunday afternoon with five other motorists injured and sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash happened just a few days after Will graduated from Scots PGC College.

A family friend, Leeanne Eastwell, has been helping the family in the aftermath of the tragic accident.

Ms Eastwell said she saw Will ‘almost like a fifth son’ and said her youngest son Lane had a close bond with the young rider.

In the aftermath of Will’s tragic and untimely passing, Leeanne stepped up and began organising a GoFundMe which has raised more than $7000.

“Lane told me he was going to get his first tattoo, and he showed me on his forearm he’s got Will’s name and when he was born and when he passed,” Ms Eastwell said. “It says ‘90 or nothing’, which is a scoring saying in campdrafting.”

The Gadfield crash was followed by another shocking one in the Lockyer Valley on Tuesday.

Seventeen-year-old Cassie Battisson and 15-year-old Tyson Brehm — along with another unnamed teen understood to be Cassie’s 15-year-old brother, were travelling in a Mazda CX-9 at the time of the crash at Brightview.

According to police the crash happened on a rural road at the intersection of Brightview District and Brightview roads, while attempting to overtake a truck at 6am Tuesday.

The car left the road and crashed into a power pole, before catching fire, according to LifeFlight crews who flew the female patient to hospital.

Cassie was taken in a critical condition to the Princess Alexandra Hospital while Tyson and the other boy were taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and Princess Alexandra Hospital, also in critical conditions.

On Thursday, a wedding fashion designer tragically lost three limbs after a catastrophic tractor slasher accident.
