A woman has died after suffering breathing difficulties during a snorkelling trip in the Whitsundays, with passengers on board a tourist vessel performing CPR until they reached the shore.

A woman has died after developing breathing difficulties during a snorkelling trip in the Whitsundays.

The woman, aged in her 50s, developed chest pain and breathing difficulties on the trip on Tuesday.

Initially reported as a post immersion incident while at sea, the woman is understood to have been snorkelling in the water and came up for air when she indicated shortness of breath.

The woman was brought back on board the commercial tour vessel which immediately headed for shore about 11.55am.

Emergency services including Queensland Ambulance paramedics and police met the vessel at the Coral Sea Marina about 12.30pm.

It is understood crew on board the boat rendered first aid but the woman could not be revived.

The RACQ CQ Rescue chopper was called but then stood down.

It comes a week after a newlywed was tragically killed in a golf buggy accident on Hamilton Island.

Marina Morgan, 29, from Sydney’s inner west, was enjoying her honeymoon with her new husband Robbie Morgan just days after they tied the knot when disaster struck on Monday afternoon.

The couple had married the previous week in Sydney in a lavish celebration at Doltone House before heading to Hamilton Island for a dream honeymoon, but in a tragic twist, it can be revealed the couple delayed their wedding celebrations for a year due to the Covid pandemic.

Mr Morgan on Monday said he wanted to set up a charity in honour of Ms Morgan.

He said he would have more to say about the project after her funeral, which is due to be held later this week.
