A new short term accommodation development is coming to the heart of the Whitsundays, offering comfortable “cabin-style” units close to a pre-existing tavern.

The owners of the Jubilee Pocket Tavern, Australian Venue Co., will build a 40-unit development on the unused block next to the tavern.

Documents submitted to the Whitsunday Regional Council on behalf of AVC’s Queensland based company by town planner Urbis, show the intent to develop the vacant northern portion of the lot at one Loop Rd, Jubilee Pocket.

Urbis wrote AVC planned to build 40, two bed, single-storey cabins to the northwest of the existing tavern to be incorporated as an ancillary part of the Jubilee Tavern.

“The proposed short-term accommodation is designed to be cabin-style units to provide a subtropical environment that complements the surrounds of the Whitsunday Coast,” Urbis planners wrote.

The cabins will be built around a communal area featuring a pool and large jumping pillow.

Each cabin will contain two beds in a studio layout with basic amenities, as well as a bathroom and toilet and will be no more than 10m in height.

The area will also have a pool for guest use, as well as a large jumping pillow and other communal outdoor spaces.

Operation of the short-term accommodation will be undertaken by staff at the Jubilee Tavern, who will also be responsible for reservations.

Also coming with the cabins will be a carpark, which can be used by tavern and cabin guests bringing the site’s total parking capacity to 90 spaces.

A dedicated footpath will link the accommodation with the tavern and the development is expected to add an additional 11 trips per hour to the road network during peak times.

The new accommodation will have frontage on Shute Harbour Rd and Loop Rd, be located at the rear of the existing Diamonds Hotel and accessible by the pre-existing driveway on Loop Rd.

This development comes after the new owners of the Farview Tavern in Farleigh announced their intentions to renovate and add a caravan park to their business.
