Michael Francis McMillan faced Proserpine Magistrates Court on a drink driving charge

A Gold Coast criminal defence lawyer is facing charges of drink driving during his stay at a famous Whitsunday resort island.

Michael Francis McMillan, who owns Gold Coast based firm McMillan Criminal Law, is facing a charge of drink driving while driving a golf buggy on Hamilton Island on January 17.

Magistrate Michelle Howard told the court the warrant for Mr McMillan’s arrest could now be closed, since he had presented to court to face the charge.

Mr McMillan was represented by Donnelly Law Group, which is the firm he is also a consultant at, according to his website.

Donnelly Law Group law clerk D.K. Mahoney was granted leave to appear on behalf of Mr McMillan and appeared alongside him in front of the Proserpine Magistrates Court on Monday.

Mr Mahoney asked the court to allow for a six weeks adjournment on the case in order to organise and conduct a case conference.

Mr Mahoney told the court Mr McMillan was not in a position to enter a plea at this stage.

The case was adjourned to June 7.
