A lawyer who stomped on a woman’s face and laughed at her while partying in the VIP section of a popular Airlie Beach nightclub has learnt her fate in court, after being refused a request to submit her guilty plea by letter.

Danica Paige Szepanowski, 27, was at Airlie Beach nightclub Mama Africa’s when an altercation with another lawyer occurred on March 4 after midnight, Proserpine Magistrates Court heard.

Prosecutor Sergeant Emma Myors said Szepanowski was in the VIP section with associates, when another lawyer approached her and started a verbal argument.

Sergeant Myors said security had to intervene following that altercation and were holding the other woman down.

Szepanowski then reportedly “stomped on the upper body and face” of that woman six times, before she stepped back and laughed with another lawyer, Sergeant Myors explained.

She then “returned to the woman and stomped on her one more time”.

Sergeant Myors told the court it was ‘surprising’ the only charge against Szepanowski was public nuisance, but she went on to explain the other woman had decided not to press charges against her.

She added that although the ordeal was a “serious offence”, Szepanowski had no history on her record whatsoever.

Magistrate Michelle Howard told the court Szepanowski had tried to plead guilty via writing but that it had not been accepted as she was required to come in the court.

Szepanowski apologised for her behaviour in front of the Proserpine Magistrates Court and promised she would never do anything like this again.

Ms Howard told her the alcohol-fuelled ambience of the party provided context to the incident but no excuse.

She fined her $1000 and decided not to record the offence based on her flawless history.
