Goondiwindi rollover: Man rescued from floodwaters after crashing truck

A man had to be pulled to safety in a dramatic rescue after his truck rolled into floodwaters on a Southern Downs highway.

A man has needed to be rescued by swift water crews after his truck rolled into rising floodwaters overnight.

Emergency crews were called to the scene of the crash at the intersection of the Cunningham Highway and Kerimbilla Road at Goondiwindi at 3.25am on Tuesday.

The male driver was able to extricate himself from the vehicle, but required assistance from swift water technicians to reach safety.

He did not require transportation to hospital.

With up to 60mm of rain forecast across the already saturated region on Tuesday alone, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services used the incident as a reminder to residents to drive to the conditions.

“More heavy rainfall is expected today and flooding is likely. If it’s flooded, forget it,” the Twitter post read.

Data from the Bureau of Meteorology reports Goondiwindi has received about 27mm of rain in the past 24 hours.

The latest updates indicate the Macintyre River at Goondiwindi is holding steady at 8.83m, but is expected to peak with potential flooding on Tuesday due to increased rainfall.

Water levels are continuing to ease through the upper Condamine River to Warwick.
