A 65-year-old man has been killed after his dual cab ute and a garbage truck collided on the Cunningham Highway near Allan on Tuesday morning.
Police said the crash happened at about 5.30am near Link Road.
The driver of the utility, a 65-year-old man, was declared deceased at the scene.
The driver of the truck, a 61-year-old man was transported to Warwick Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage is urged to contact police.
The fatality is an ominous start to National Road Safety Week on the Southern Downs.
The crash happened about 10km outside Warwick.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said crews arrived to find the driver of the truck entrapped in the vehicle.
The driver was freed by fire and rescue crews who used hydraulic cutting gear to remove the driver’s side door, the QFES spokeswoman said.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the truck driver was transported to Warwick Hospital in a stable condition.
Paramedics treated two other patients, a male passenger in the vehicle who sustained critical injures and a female with minor injuries, the QAS spokeswoman said.
A Queensland Police Service spokesman said traffic control was in place along the Cunningham Highway at Allan, with long delays to be expected.
Both lanes of the highway were closed with diversions in place via Strickfuss Rd and Sandy Creek Rd.
Police investigations are ongoing into the circumstances that led to the crash.
