Southern Downs Regional Council begins work on new dog park section at Victoria Park

Construction will soon begin on a new extension to a Warwick park, with pet owners and their furry friends in for a tail-wagging good time.

Furry friends and their human companions will have the space to exercise and play in the coming months, as a new park in Warwick is underway.

Victoria Park, near Warwick Hospital, will be home to a new off-leash dog park, with work commencing in early May.

The park will be fenced in, featuring equipment and green space, near Rose City FM headquarters.

Jointly funded by the Queensland and Australian governments through Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements and Southern Downs Regional Council, the new pooch playground will cater for dogs of all sizes, with three separate fenced areas to be constructed.

Deputy mayor Sheryl Windle said she looked forward to the community project progressing and delivering a sanctuary where dogs and their owners can have fun and socialise.

“A dog off-leash area helps dogs stay healthy and happy, and it also allows members of our community to meet and socialise,” Ms Windle said.

“I’d like to thank those members of our community who participated in the community engagement which overwhelmingly endorsed Victoria Park as the preferred location for the new DOLA.”

Alternate locations were considered, such as Mel Gibson Park and Queens Park.

“Several factors were considered in deciding on a suitable location for a new DOLA, such as proximity to the town centre, distance from residential properties, parking access and integration into existing urban parks with paths, water and toilets,” Ms Windle said.

“Whether it’s chasing tennis balls, making new friends or simply enjoying the fresh air, the new DOLA at Victoria Park will provide the perfect pet-friendly space for Warwick’s dogs to safely run free.”
