Five identified black spots in Warwick have been proposed to undergo $416,000 worth of work, following feedback from the community.

Horsman Road was identified as a “reactive site” due to the history of crashes at various intersection along the stretch to road.

To improve the road’s safety, signs and line markings will be installed at the Rose, Peters and Glennie Streets intersections at a cost of $15,000.

The intersection of Glen Road and Willi Street is proposed to undergo $320,000 worth of work.

The plan is to remove the existing Y intersection and create a T-intersection and also install new line markings, signage and a stormwater pipe.

The busy intersection of Albert Street and Dragon Street was identified as a black spot due to being potentially hazardous.

Suggested works include the installation of median islands on Albert Street, kerb extensions and ramps and new signs and line markings estimated at $50,000.

Mary Street has been proposed to be made into a one-way street, with new signs and line markings expected to cost $26,000.

New line markings and signs have also been proposed to be installed at the Ann Street and Glen Road intersection estimating to $5000.

Southern Downs councillor Andrew Gale said it was important for road safety issues in the community to be identified and for the problems to be addressed.

“As part of a comprehensive and ongoing schedule of safety upgrades and improvements to our roads, council continues to address traffic areas of concern in the interest of all road users, locals and visitors alike,” he said.

The investment is part of the Federal Government’s Black Spot Program, which aims to improve road safety by measuring traffic signals at locations where serious crashes have occurred.

The approval status of each of these proposed projects will not be known until May next year.
