Wade Kelly crowned Sunshine Coast’s hottest tradie

After weeks of vying for the title, a Sunshine Coast tiler has been crowned hottest around, thanking his team “for the stitch up”. Read what inspired his heartfelt approach to business here.

The Sunshine Coast’s steamiest tradie has finally been decided, after two weeks of close competition.

Tiler Wade Kelly, 32, has won the title of hottest in the region, snatching 37 per cent of votes in the final round.

Mr Kelly said he would “take the win” and thanked his mates for the “stitch up.”

Mr Kelly started his own business five years ago and now runs We Lay Tiles and We Do Clips on the Sunshine Coast.

Mr Kelly said he has hoped to grow his businesses and provide opportunities for young people which he himself never received.

“My biggest plan was to make money but as I started running my business, I got more of a kick helping these kids,” he said.

“I was one of those kids who was getting into trouble, a bit lost with life, then my business saved me.”

Following the death of two mates in the past as well as struggling with cancer, Mr Kelly has focused on providing fun, positive experiences and mental health support to his team.

“I’m a big believer in making work and the work boys like family,” he said.

“If things are not going well at home, we have a thing where we stop, pull everyone up and talk to make sure everyone knows the go with them.

“If I cannot treat them like my own kid, I don’t want them because I want them to come home to their families and be better kids.”

More than 300 people had voted for their favourite in the search for best on the Sunshine Coast, singling out Josh Stahlhut, Jackson Kite and Wade Kelly as finalists.

Sunshine Coast plumber Jackson Kite was the people’s choice, scoring second in both the first vote and the final top three poll.
