One of the world’s most iconic luxury super yachts, which was built for the late billionaire tech giant Steve Jobs, has been spotted in waters off the Sunshine Coast after spending months cruising in Queensland waters.
Venus, the $120m super yacht commissioned by the late Apple founder was seen off the coast of Caloundra on Tuesday, but had been spotted in Queensland waters as early as August when it was docked in Cairns and supplies were brought aboard after a journey across the Pacific Ocean.
It is understood that the super yacht was in the vicinity of Cairns for several weeks, before heading south to steer clear of Tropical Cyclone Jasper.
MarineTraffic stated Venus departed from its port in Brisbane and navigated towards Moreton Island, before it cruised past the ocean-facing side of Bribie Island and up to Caloundra. It then headed eastwards from Warana into the Pacific Ocean.
At the time of publishing, the ship is located New Caledonia.
Caloundra resident Peter Bramman photographed the super yacht as it sailed past the Sunshine Coast from the balcony of his apartment.
“It’s pretty cool, it is about 80m long, very sleek, it looked pretty impressive,” Mr Bramman said.
“I think I was more interested by the fact that it is Steve Job’s yacht and the fact that he wanted it in that design.”
Mr Bramman, who regularly observes vessels from his apartment balcony, knew the yacht was going to be sailing past the Sunshine Coast.
“I normally check out Vessel Finder to see what is going to be sailing past and a different coloured icon came up on the site for the Venus super yacht,” he added.
“I then did a Google search and realised that it was the yacht Steve Jobs wanted built.
“We waited a couple of hours and then watched it sail on by, it was pretty cool.”
Extended marine tracking history shows the super yacht has docked at some of the plushest ports in the world, including Mallorca and Ponza in the Mediterranean and Saint Martin in the Caribbean.
Built by the Feadship shipyard in the Netherlands, the 78m vessel was launched in October 2012, a year after the passing of the American businessman and is now owned by his widow Laurene Powell Jobs.
Crafted from lightweight aluminium, the vessel’s exterior design features sleek lines in an apparent nod to Apple’s aesthetic style, while the vessel is known to have a spacious interior, with six bedrooms.
