Sunshine Coast median household incomes revealed in Census 2021 results

Median household incomes at a quiet Sunshine Coast hinterland suburb have topped those in ritzy Noosa suburbs, new Census data reveals. See how your suburb compares.

Census data shows 'how much Australia has changed'

A quiet hinterland town has been revealed as the Sunshine Coast’s highest-earning suburb where incomes rose almost 30 per cent in five years.

Census data revealed that in 2021 Landsborough’s median household income was $2004 per week, up 29.4 per cent from 2016.

The data revealed most suburbs experienced income increases of more than 20 per cent, with the next highest areas Buderim South with $1922 and Mountain Creek at $1911.

Ray White Beerwah principal Alexander Garden said Landsborough had grown in popularity for families wanting more space and a less densely populated area.

The census data revealed Landsborough’s population of 5116 equated to about 74 people per square kilometre, in comparison to Beerwah where there was a population of 7707 and 132.5 people per square kilometre, paling in comparison to Mooloolaba and Alexandra Headland with a population density of 2228 people per square kilometre.

Its proximity to the train to Brisbane was one drawcard, as well as house prices for properties on larger lots, Mr Garden said.

“Landsborough has been so undervalued for such a long time and people are realising that,” he said.

“It’s a great in between location for the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane.

“People who buy here look for good value.”

Median household incomes in Landsborough topped flash suburbs in Noosa including Noosa Heads and Sunshine Beach where median incomes were $1843 and $1826 respectively.

Mr Garden, a Beerwah resident of 10 years, said until recent years Beerwah had been the hot location.

Now he said Landsborough had drawn plenty of attention from buyers, particularly families.

“It was always Beerwah that was really popular, people wanted to be near the main hub,” Mr Garden said.

“Now Beerwah has become so busy so they’re looking towards the outskirts to Landsborough or Glass House.”

Caloundra – Kings Beach, and Caloundra Hinterland had the lowest median household incomes of $1122 and $1261, respectively.

Golden Beach and Maroochydore/Kuluin’s median household incomes were $1347 and $1384.
