A Sunshine Coast man has been refused bail for allegedly trying to procure his underage daughter for sex through disturbed messages before threatening to shoot her.

The Sunshine Coast man wailed as he was remanded in custody on Monday after Maroochydore Magistrates Court heard the strong case against him where he allegedly asked his 15-year-old daughter to be his “sugar baby”.

The man in his 40s, who was not named to protect the victim’s identity, was charged with seven offences following his arrest at the weekend which include two counts of indecent treatment of a child, using the internet to procure a child and using a carriage service to make a threat to kill.

Police prosecutor James Allen said police allegedly uncovered a bevy of sexually charged messages between the man and his underage daughter.

The man, who appeared in court by video link from the Maroochydore watch-house continually shook his head as Mr Allen read the alleged texts to the court.

“I can’t wait to make you moan … I will get you pregnant … can you be my sugar baby,” the man allegedly messaged the child.

Mr Allen said police allege the man messaged the girl a picture of an erect penis with the message “hey baby”.

The court heard more messages including the Sunshine Coast man allegedly saying to the girl “have sex with me … can I have a p---y pic, I will pay for it”.

“I saw the pictures of you on Instagram and you are so hot,” the man allegedly said.

“Sexy girl I am coming to your house now try and stop me, I’ve got a gun.”

In another message, the court heard the man allegedly said “if you tell anyone I’ll shoot you dead”.

The court heard the alleged victim confided in a relative but had not given a statement to police yet.

The police prosecutor said it appeared to be a strong case due to the messages being allegedly found on the man’s phone when he was arrested on the Sunshine Coast.

Duty lawyer Michael Robinson said there were some “bold assertions” made by the arresting officer in the bail objection affidavit tendered to the court, and stated there were no allegations of personal contact between the man and the child.

Mr Robinson said the man could abide by strict bail conditions if released from custody on Monday, and cited the amount of time it would take for the matter to proceed through the courts.

The duty lawyer said the man had been staying at the homeless hub at Kawana Waters when he was arrested, with no firearm found during his arrest.

Ms Smith said the risk of the Sunshine Coast man committing more offences was too great and refused his bail.

Sobs could be heard from the man as his matters were adjourned to August 19 in Brisbane Magistrates Court.
