New Inskip sinkole caught on camera

The ever-changing face of holiday haven Inskip has shifted again, with a new sinkhole opening up at the popular tourist grounds between Rainbow Beach and Noosa.

Visitor Katrina Karhula captured footage of the latest landslip in action, sharing clips of the disappearing land on the popular Word’s Out Rainbow Beach Facebook page.

The slip happened early Saturday morning near Sarawak West’s second camping spot.

The footage shows the area crumbling and cracking away into the nearby ocean, with a small tree crashing into the water at one point.

Onlookers are left to watch on as the ground simply vanishes into the water, with one commenting there were clearly visible “cracks in the sand”.

“This is nuts,” they can he heard saying.

This latest landslip has occurred only one month after the last, when park rangers captured another opening up and swallowing a large chunk of the point at the start of June.

The sinkholes, or near-shore landslips, are a common occurrence in the area with records of the events dating back as far as 1873.

In September 2015 about 300 campers had to be evacuated when a 200m-wide hole swallowed a caravan, 4WD, trailer, tents, and trees.
