The wife of a retired electrician who died after he was crushed by his beloved three-wheeler motorbike has paid tribute to the love of her life.

Trevor Wright, 73, died after his Can-Am Spyder motorbike fell on him while he was working underneath it in the garage of his Glover Court, Montville property about 11am on Monday, August 9.

His wife of 54 years, Margaret, found him and neighbours rushed to Mr Wright’s aide, using a jackhammer to free the motorcycling enthusiast who had been pinned under the weight of the bike.

Mrs Wright said her husband had been for a “lovely ride” earlier on Monday and had been watching MotoGP replays over breakfast before tragedy struck.

“He was underneath it doing some maintenance when it came down on him,” she said.

Mrs Wright said her husband had been passionate about his motorbikes and you could “just about eat breakfast off the garage floor” as he kept it in such pristine condition.

“He was fastidious,” she said.

The pair moved to their Glover Court home almost 10 years ago having retired to Montville to enjoy the scenic roads which were perfect for riding.

Police are investigating after they received triple-0 calls about the incident about 11am on Monday and rushed to the scene.

Firefighters and paramedics had also rushed to the scene at the hinterland property.

Neighbours tried to lift the motorbike off the man before emergency crews arrived but he could not be saved.

Glover Court resident Trevor Brown was one of the residents that tried to save Mr Wright.

Mr Brown said Mr Wright was a “good bloke” who had loved his gardening and his daily ride at 6am.

“It’s strange that an accident like this could happen to him,” Mr Brown said.

Melva and Ian Maynard paid tribute to Mr and Mrs Wright as “wonderful” neighbours, saying it was a sad day for the tight-knit community.

“They’re really nice people. It’s really sad,” Mrs Maynard said.

“Their son is coming here from Darwin to be with her.”

Mr Wright had been riding motorbikes since he was 17 and had raced competitively.

His niece Fiona Deadman said he had been an incredibly safety conscious rider throughout his life.

Mrs Wright remembered her husband as a gifted electrician and property manager who “could turn his hand to anything”.

“He’s always enjoyed the feeling of straddling a bike,” she said.

Mr Wright had worked in Brisbane and the Gold Coast and was being remembered by his friends and family which included his two sons and his four grandchildren.

Ms Deadman said Mr and Mrs Wright’s marriage had been “an incredible, loving relationship”.

Mrs Wright said her husband had been a serious man who had his passions.

“He’d get into something and he really got into it,” she said.

Mrs Wright said they had tried to get out and embrace life even in retirement.

Palmwoods police officer-in-charge Sergeant Kevin Crowley described the incident as a “tragic accident”.

“It appears he was working on his motorbike which has somehow ended up on top of him,” Sergeant Crowley said.

Sergeant Crowley said the forensic crash unit and scenes of crime officers were investigating the incident.

“Obviously you have to keep an open mind but it certainly does look like a tragic accident,” he said.

A report would be prepared for the coroner.
