Parents and family of Sunshine Coast triathlete Alexa Leary have started to spread awareness as the 19-year-old’s condition begins improving after a horror biking accident on July 17.

Ms Leary, who on Friday entered her 21st night at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, began showing positive signs of recognition and movement.

Ms Leary’s father Russell said it has been tough but remains hopeful of a positive outcome.

“We’ve found that the past three days have probably been the best three days we’ve seen from her,” he said.

“I never thought it but for her to be able to swallow what was two spoonfuls of custard on Friday was massive because the sooner she can start to eat and feed herself she will be able to start rehab.

“She’s also recognising people's faces and actions a little bit more which is great.

“We still have the blood clot, and brain pressure to deal with but that’s out of our hands so we just forget about it and focus on the positives.”

Family and friends are rallying around the popular young woman and encouraging people to show their support through a new Instagram page, Moveforlex.

“Lexie loves to exercise and on average trains for three hours a day,” they said.

“At the moment she obviously can’t, but we’d love to see your videos and for you to share them with us.

“So please, if you can take a picture or video and tag us so we keep them all in one place.”

Mr Leary said it was a way for people to share their support and keep active.

“We’d like to hope that this page will make people realise how lucky they are as there is this kid who is fighting for her life in hospital,” he said.

Mr Leary said the support had been overwhelming.

“It’s not an easy situation we’re in but we’ve got to stand tall,” he said

“The support we’ve received has been worldwide and it really does help us to keep going.”
