Two Sunshine Coast dads have joined forces to turn their beer-brewing hobby into the region’s latest locally owned business, which promises to deliver a twist on traditional tipples.

Two Sunshine Coast dads have joined forces to turn their beer-brewing hobby into the region’s latest locally owned business, which promises to deliver a “modern twist on classics”.
Marcoola residents Matt Ford and Chris Geddes are behind the industrial area’s newest brewery, Young Giants Brewing, which is set to open at unit 6, 13 Runway Dr, Marcoola.
Mr Geddes said the brewery would be an inclusive, family-friendly space with a focus on service and connections with local suppliers.
“With young families ourselves we really wanted to create a space that speaks to other Sunshine Coast families and is approachable but still fresh and innovative,” Mr Geddes said.
“We’d love to become the brewery that all the locals go to.”
Mr Geddes said the venue’s proximity to the Sunshine Coast Airport sold them on the industrial warehouse, which has been renovated to accommodate the brewery.
“It is such a great location because if you’re waiting for a plane we are just here, it is very easy to pop in for a cheeky beer,” Mr Geddes said.
Mr Ford, who also runs an acupuncture business in Maroochydore, said he would be the main one brewing the beer onsite after taking it up has a hobby 19 years ago.
“We will be going for a modern twist on classics, taking a lot of traditional styles, traditional lagers, new IPAs, pale ales and doing them a bit differently,” Mr Ford said.
“Every time you come there will be something different.”
Mr Geddes said there were still plenty of ideas they hoped to deliver as the business grows.
“I think it would be cool to have a Friday beer-run, every week you know your Friday beer drop is coming and it is there on your doorstep,” Mr Geddes said.
Mr Geddes and Mr Ford said they expect the venue would open in the coming weeks.
