TEAM OF THE ROUND, MALE UNDER 19s

TEAM OF THE WEEK

1. Matthew Fielding (Sandgate-Redcliffe)

Fielding hit the mark yet again this season with a dazzling 48 from 24 balls which broke the game wide opener.

The Gator’s opener could not be contained, hitting three sixes and five fours during his brief stay. Behind the wicket he also claimed two stumpings.

2. Balian Herd (University)

University legend Wep Harris, whom Uni’s home ground is named after, would have loved to have watched Herd thrilling counter attacking in a low scoring match against Valley. Herd hit six sixes on his way to 56 from 25 as Uni got home by just one wicket in a thriller. On a day dominated by the bowlers, Herd’s new ball assault proved the difference.

3. Ryan Reid (Gold Coast)

The Gold Coast were in trouble following the loss of two big wickets early chasing Wests 185, but Reid sent a message to his dug out by brazenly counterattacking to quickly swing momentum away from the opposition. He scored 45 from 27 balls, and off the back of his courage Ned Hanrahan (42, 28 balls) and Brody Felton (46, 31 balls), exploded to life. Reid also dismissed Wests’ dangerman Jacob Cibulka (32, 15 balls).

4. Jacob Bath (South Brisbane)

Bath scored 52 not out from 42 balls, but he would be the first to doff his hat to his bowling unit of Max Isoardi (2-6), Matthew Harvie (2-23) and Saxon Jeh (2-10) who set up the match by helping bowl Ipswich out for 110.

5. Lachlan McClure (Redlands)

McClure ensured the Tigers would win with room to spare, with his dazzling 53 not out coming from just 43 balls against bayside rivals Wynnum Manly. With the ball the Iona College old boy also contributed with 1-27 - claiming his team’s first wicket.

6. Brody Felton (Gold Coast)

Felton’s dynamic 46 from 31 balls propelled the Dolphins innings along at a rate of knots that could not be curtailed by Wests’ bowlers. The Cudgen Cricket Club junior representative also snared the catch which ended the crucial innings of Wests’ Jacob Cibulka (32, 15 balls).

7. Eli Brain (Norths)

The U17 Queensland representative claimed 3-20 and top scored for his side with 17.

Ely Robertson (Redlands)

Robertson only claimed two wickets (2-22, four overs) against Wynnum, but they were the big scalps of Harley Malpass and Queensland U17 representative Hayden Hamilton. Both batsmen fell cheaply to Robertson.

8. Carter Simpson (Sunshine Coast)

Simpson produced a match high score of 32, and with the ball claimed 2-9.

As a bowling unit, the Scorchers were unmatched in this round. Queensland U17 paceman Thomas Town set the early example and the rest followed with precision, particularly Ben Gordon (2-10), Cooper Keogh (1-7) and Liam Johnson (2-8).

9. Spencer Green (Toombul)

Sandgate-Redcliffe stormed to its target of 112 against Toombul in just 14.2 overs, but Nudgee College leg spinner Spencer Green maintained his claim to snare 3-16 from four overs.

10. Brayden Meegama (University)

The Valley innings thundered along at more than six runs an over, but not surprisingly Meegama was one step ahead of the runaway Valley batsmen. He took 2-14 from four overs, and ran out Daniel Desmet who had rolled to 18 from 19 balls. He had the honour of hitting the winning single with six balls to spare.

11. Lakshdeep Singh (Sandgate-Redcliffe)

The Queensland U17 leg spinner was outstanding again for the Gators, taking 3-24 which helped restrict Toombul to just 112. Singh lured both Don Gambaro and Jason Bakshi into stumping chances for keeper Fielding, he bowled Grif Thomson.

12th man: Isaac Lutz (Valley)

Like Meegama, Valley’s Lutz held it together during an all out batting assault where runs flowed quicker than adjourning Brisbane River on an outgoing tide. He took 2-15 from four overs, sending his side close to victory by ousting key batsmen Alex Walduck and Raziel Bhandari.

13th man: Michael Neumann (Wests)

Neumann produced the most thrilling innings of the round when he lofted three towering sixes and five fours on his way to 57 from just 28 deliveries. Jacob Cibulka (32, 15 balls) and Oliver Peck (44 not out, 42 balls) also went hard at the Gold Coast bowling - all to no avail.

PAUL PINK SHIELD TAV’S PLAYERS OF THE ROUND

The Paul Pink Shield saw Wests rookie allrounder Madhumika Dinesh produce a superlative 83 - denied a century only by Marley Stokes’ running her out - while Murraya Buckley (Sunshine Coast) was magnificent in making 84 not out, as was Lucinda Hillier (South Brisbane, 59 not out) in a losing side.

Friday’s U16 Tav’s semi-finalists have been decided, with Western Suburbs playing Wynnum Manly and Gold Coast taking on Valley.

Western Suburbs v Ipswich

Madhumika Dinesh (Wests)

A rising fast bowler, Madhumika Dinesh’s claims as an all-rounder cannot be understated. An under age player in this competition, she is a wildcard talent with both bat and ball who Queensland Cricket will be eager to support.

Charlotte Rafton (Wests)

Another baby of this age group, BSHS student Rafton hit a fluent 53 from just 50 balls. A 2024 selection in the Queensland School Sports 13–14 years merit team, Rafton is a rookie on the rise in the western suburbs.

Ayaka Stafford (Wests)

Another student from BSHS, the 2025 Year 10 spinner pinned Ipswich early with her decisive spin before breaking through to capture both openers, including Hornets’ ace Sage Martin who was set. She bowled 6-3-8-2.

Ella Wellwood (Wests)

Not for the first time this season Wellwood (3-11) rose to secure the game’s best bowling figures - no mean feat in a team as strong as Wests. Twice she induced edges which her keeper Chelsea Sonter snared, and on another occasion Lucy Logan supported her in the field with a catch.

Special mention: Ipswich bowler Constance O’Hara (1-27, five overs) held her nerve under intense batting fire from Wests.

Ipswich captain Sage Martin (Ipswich, 18 runs) for defying the Wests’ attack for 52 balls.

Wynnum Manly v Sandgate-Redcliffe

Aurelia Burgess and Jayani Maharaj

With both bat and ball, Burgess and Maharaj starred for Wynnum.

Maharaj pulled the trigger in the Sea Eagles run chase which saw their side win by six wickets.

Jessica Cremin.

Opener Maharaj set the tempo with a positive 31 from 44 balls before Burgess swept in to make 36 from 44 to ensure her side was close enough to secure a comfortable win.

Maharaj also claimed 2-14 from four overs while Burgess took 3-18.

Special mentions: Gators’ opener Aarcha Gautham (26 not out) basically batted through the innings while Queensland U16 representatives Matisse Easton (3-21) and Jessica Cremin (0-7, three overs) showed the way for the Gators’ bowlers.

South Brisbane v Gold Coast

Amelia Kuhn and co.

The Gold Coast owe their thrilling win over South Brisbane to their bowling unit. While Amelia Kuhn was again among the wickets with 3-33, it was a team bowling effort. The control of Queensland representative Amy Evison (0-28, 14 not out), Zoe Sherriff’s two over bursts, Uditi Ratnala’s 1-20 and Alvina Rauf’s telling 2-11 - including the final wicket - won the day for the Dolphins. Evison’s 14 not out at the end of the Coast innings also proved the difference.

Lucinda Hillier (South Brisbane)

Hiller produced the batting performance of the round - in a losing side.

The allrounder scored 59 not out from 72 balls to almost get her side home in a thriller. Hillier’s innings included five fours.

Lauren Patterson (Gold Coast)

South Brisbane would have won if it was not for Patterson’s top order 33, which was only cut short by Emma Gaffel’s arm.

The Kingra clan (South Brisbane)

Namreet Kingra took 1-22 and Varneet Kingra 2-8 to take the momentum away from the Gold Coast innings. Both Varneet’s victims were bowled.

Sunshine Coast v Northern Suburbs

Murraya Buckley(Sunshine Coast)

Was this the innings of the weekend? In a considerable run chase Buckley swept to 84 not out from just 99 balls to get the Scorchers home in a canter chasing 153. On 10 occasions the umpires waved four as Buckley punished the loose delivery.

Peyton Meredith (Sunshine Coast)

Meredith supported Buckley in the run chase with a fast bowling 30 from 40 balls - after claiming 2-21 during the Norths’ innings.

Brooke Morrish (Sunshine Coast)

Morrish only took the one wicket, but her eight overs conceded just 14 runs and her performance at the bowling crease were crucial in restricting Norths to a competitive 153 instead of a 180-plus total.

Special mentions: Lydia Rolley took 4-41, but Norths best bowler was Mia Ferguson (1-14, four overs) who proved difficult to get away.

Valley v University
Ayla Johnson (Valley)

Did we save the best until almost last? Johnson’s withering 91 ball assault yielded 98 before she was denied a century by the Aarya Repal-Jordyn Thureson combination. Johnson struck 11 fours.

Ophelia Donohue and Alyssa Tinetti (Valley)

The girls eroded the University batting with accurate bowling, with Donohue’s fine season including her 3-10 in this match, while Tinetti claimed 3-4. Not surprisingly Emma Swanepoel (1-5, four overs) also performed.

Special mentions: Jordyn Thureson (University, 3-21) did extremely well under considerable pressure while Baarish Limbachiya (University, 0-35) held up her end of the bargain during her eight overs.
