Firebirds Masters to compete at Sunshine Challenge, how you can get involved
A star-studded team of former Queensland Firebirds will lace up their netball shoes and return to the court to compete in next month’s Sunshine Challenge Netball Invitational at Nissan Arena. Here’s how you can rub shoulders with the greats:

A star-studded team of former Queensland Firebirds will lace up their netball shoes and return to the court to compete in next month’s Sunshine Challenge Netball Invitational (SCNI) at Nissan Arena.
Featuring the likes of 2011 premiership winner Kierra Trompf, skipper Peta Stephens and player-turned interim coach Katie Walker, the Firebirds Masters will play in Open Women’s community division
The Sunshine Challenge, an innovative new concept by Netball Queensland for 2025, will have its inaugural tournament hosted at Nissan from February 28 to March 2.
Walker initiated the formation of a Masters team and said it event would provide an opportunity for past Firebirds to reunite, enjoy a laugh or two off the court, and take in what will be a true celebration of netball across the weekend.
“We all accept we aren’t what we used to be but we’ll be competitive because that’s just in our nature,” she said.
“Everyone loved the idea when it was suggested among us ex-players, whether they were thinking of playing or not.
“Each former Firebird that will play in the SCNI this year has their own unique reasons for wanting to be a part and we are all extremely excited to be getting back on court together once again.”
Netball Queensland are now calling a last chance for more community teams to nominate and play, citing the chance to face your Firebirds heroes as something you cannot miss.
The deadline for registrations is Friday January 17, via NQ’s SCNI website.
