A DEDICATED staff with a passion to build on their skills was the main driver behind a Sunshine Coast school's major improvement in testing.
An analysis of five years' worth of NAPLAN results has revealed the schools that improved their Year 5 and Year 9 student scores the most.
The data showed Sunshine Beach State High School upgraded its Year 9 results more than any other in the region, with an increase of 4.8 per cent between 2015 and 2019.

- Sunshine Beach State High School
- Coolum State High School
- Kawana Waters State College
- Coolum Beach Christian College
- Nambour Christian College
- Beerwah State High School
- Maroochydore State High School
- Good Shepherd Lutheran College
- Montessori International College
- St Andrew's Anglican College
Principal Grant Williams said using Investing for Success funding, the school's Literacy and Numeracy improvement plan was vital in achieving the results.
"We have trained a group of teachers as literacy and numeracy coaches and they are able to work with other teachers in building their capability in delivering quality pedagogical practices that, through research, improve student outcomes," he said.
"Our Writing on Demand strategy implemented over the last 12 months has ensured that our Year 9 writing results continue to improve - defying the national trend.
"Implicit within our strategy is the students' understanding of the techniques being implemented and receiving individual constructive and detailed feedback."
Mr Williams gave credit to the school's teachers for supporting students in achieving the improved results.
"Our dedicated staff have worked diligently and professionally to build their pedagogical practice and ensure the success of all students at Sunshine Beach State High," he said.
The data also revealed Maleny State School improved its Year 5 results more than any other in the region, where the average results across all subjects grew by 6.5 per cent.
