A mother-of-three and registered nurse at Sunshine Coast University Hospital who clocked up 32 demerit points was found with a collection of drugs and cannabis plants.
Rebecca Anne Moussalli, 40, was fined $1600 and disqualified from driving from in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on June 22, 2022.
Police prosecutor Mick Rudiman said police went to Moussalli’s Buderim house for another matter and saw two 1.5m marijuana plants growing in plain sight on February 23, 2022.
Officers detained Moussalli and searched her house, finding 89g of dried marijuana in a bowl and in jars.
Sergeant Ruddiman said they located a third 60cm plant on the veranda, along with scales and a bong.
All the items were seized.
The court heard police then searched Moussalli’s car in Brisbane on March 2, 2022, when she was with a man and found a small amount of meth, a clip seal bag of marijuana, 1-3ml of GHB, drug utensils and multiple ID cards suspected of being tainted property.
The court heard Moussalli also clocked up 32 demerit points and drove while demerit point suspended on March 28.
She then drove while disqualified by a court order on April 11 while she also had her number plate confiscated by police.
The mother-of-three further failed to appear at her court date on April 20.
Solicitor Belinda Robinson said her client had been working since 2006 as a nurse and was working at Sunshine Coast University Hospital on a casual basis.
Ms Robinson said Moussalli had not been working for four weeks due to an injury and started using the substances over the last 12 months due to her pain and anxiety.
“She said she grew up in an abusive household ... she has three children aged 15, 11 and nine that all reside with her,” Ms Robinson told the court.
Magistrate Matthew McLaughlin only recorded convictions for the traffic charges.
“With that conga line of charges if you come back before the court again you have to expect a conviction will be recorded which will be an absolute disaster for your career,” Mr McLaughlin said.
“You’re obviously an intelligent, educated woman and this is self destructive behaviour really carrying on like that.”
Moussalli pleaded guilty to a total of 12 charges including four counts of possessing dangerous drugs, one count of producing a dangerous drug, one count of possessing property used in connection with a drug offence, one count of possessing utensils, one count of possessing tainted property, one count of driving disqualified, one count of driving while demerit point suspended, one count of operating a vehicle during number plate suspension period and failing to appear.
