Sending a loved one to an aged care facility can be a difficult process for anyone, but it’s made slightly easier when you know they will be getting the best care. See all 40 of the Sunshine Coast’s aged care homes and how they rate.

One Sunshine Coast aged care facility has been rated the best in the region by the Australian government, as the conditions of each aged care home on the Sunshine Coast and Noosa are laid bare in an annual report.
Forty aged care facilities across the Sunshine Coast and Noosa regions have been assessed by the Australian Government’s aged care support service, My Aged Care, and been rated on their compliance.
Regulations and standards are designed to protect and enhance the safety, health and wellbeing of residents.
Performance ratings and quality relate to key things like medication management, restrictive practices and pressure injuries, resident experiences, resident feedback on their care, and staffing or the amount of care available to residents.
Facilities are rated out of five stars; one star for where significant improvement is needed, two stars covers improvement needed, three stars is acceptable, four stars is considered good and five is excellent.
Out of 40 Sunshine Coast and Noosa aged care homes listed on the website, six were rated three stars overall, while 29 were rated four stars overall. All ratings were updated on February 26, 2024.
The Bowder Lodge Care Centre at Nambour was the only facility to receive an overall rating of five stars. No facilities were given one or two stars overall.
Operated by Sundale, the Bowder centre in Doolan Street, has 32 ground level units which open onto lush and peaceful gardens. It was only one of about 12 aged care centres in Queensland to achieve the honour.
According to a recent report, Bowder Lodge surpassed the federal government’s registered nurse time targets by 29 per cent and nursing and personal care targets by 26 per cent. Sundale last year celebrated 60 years of serving the Nambour community. It achieved a 19 out of 20 in the assessment.
Sundale Board Chairperson Terence Seymour said Sundale was “extremely proud” of the exceptional care they provide residents.

Sunrise Beach Aged Care
Sunrise Beach Aged Care did not have a rating, general or overall, as they were a new provider who has been operating for less than 12 months, the MyAgedCare website states.
Arcare Birtinya
Arcare Birtinya did not have an overall rating as they are a new provider who has been operating for less than 12 months, the MyAgedCare website states.
The facility was rated four stars for compliance and four stars for residents’ experience, but did not have any available ratings for quality measures or staffing.
