MOVING from the northern suburbs of Sydney to a tranquil home near the Buderim forest was an easy decision for Kerina Simon to ensure her family was set-up for life.
The 47-year-old said the price of housing, land size and lifestyle drew her family to the Sunshine Coast after regular visits to friends enticed them.
And she's not alone.
She is among an stream of interstate buyers McGrath Buderim principal Chris Pace has dealt with looking for their forever home.
"We didn't want the mortgage any more,” Ms Simon said. "You pay virtually half the cost for the same-sized home than in Sydney.”
The average house price at Buderim has jumped more than 25 per cent in the past five years to $650,000- but remains affordable compared to other high-end suburbs.
The cheapest suburbs to buy in include Nambour at $399,000, Yandina at $439,000 and Landsborough at $430,000.
Mr Pace said the area offered diversity not often seen in other suburbs.
"Buderim offers such a great range- acreage, views, units. It's always been a rock-solid performer and holds the value well,” he said.
In February, the Simon family crossed the border and purchased a two-storey home from Mr Pace in a quiet street off Jones Rd.
Proximity to their teenage children's school was essential to make the 5am swimming training, and Ms Simon said their new home offered that and more for their kids. "The big thing was setting them up for the future... it gives them a chance to buy their own home,” she said.
While the future value of their home was important, Ms Simon said it was her"retirement plan”.
"With the airport expansion and the new developments, I think the region is going to attract more people like us,” she said.
The Sunshine Coast recorded a five year increase of 29.3 per cent, with a current average house price of $585,000.
