Dramatic details of the moment a 26-year-old Maleny man, accused of having bikie links, had a “stroke-like” medical episode amid his arrest have been shared in court.
William Myles Murray, who appeared in Maroochydore Magistrates Court via videolink, made an application for bail on October 7, 2022, after he was allegedly found with drugs and a loaded gun.
He faces 11 charges, including one of possessing explosives without authority, one of possessing property suspected of being used in connection with the commission of a drug offence, six of possessing dangerous drugs, one of possessing detachable magazines without a licence, one of unlawful possession of a weapon and one of unlawfully possess a relevant substance or thing.
He did not enter a plea.
Defence lawyer Anna Smith told the court her client was found in a “halfway house”, where he had been for two days before he was arrested.
The court was told police allegedly found Mr Murray with a loaded, semiautomatic firearm, as well as an array of drugs.
But Ms Smith said there was limited evidence to suggest her client was in possession of the items, saying the drugs found were allegedly being stored in the roof.
When police went to arrest Mr Murray, Ms Smith said he had a “stroke-like” medical episode and was taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital with an “altered level of consciousness”.
Ms Smith rejected suggestions her client had a connection to outlaw motorcycle gangs.
He was employed as a concreter in the Sunshine Coast area up until recently, she told the court.
Mr Murray’s bail was denied, and he will return to the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on November 25.
