A Slacks Creek carer has been refused bail after she allegedly encouraged her boyfriend to drive them away from police in a stolen Uber rental car.

Teanna Joy Surdo allegedly told her co-accused Jordan Lee Conte “drive, babe, drive” when officers tried to apprehend the pair during a manic incident at Golden Beach on Saturday.

Bail objection documents before Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday reveal allegations the 32-year-old hired the ride share vehicle on June 6, which was to be returned the following day.

Court documents state the vehicle, a black 2023 LDV wagon, was not returned by Saturday which prompted the owner to locate his vehicle through a tracking device.

Police allege the owner found his vehicle in the Woolworths car park at Caloundra where he found a small amount of marijuana and a receipt from Bong Warehouse on the seat.

The owner then allegedly tracked his vehicle to Short St at Golden Beach and notified police who attended to find two people standing next to the car.

Police parked in front of the car and tried to speak to Conte, who allegedly jumped in the driver’s seat while Surdo was in the front passenger seat.

Court documents state the pair violently struggled against police before Surdo allegedly screamed at Conte “drive, babe, drive”.

Conte allegedly started the car and put it into gear however Surdo was yanked from the vehicle.

Police allege they narrowly escaped from the open front driver’s side door as it moved forward and smashed into another car.

It’s further alleged Conte drove away at high speed towards Landsborough Pde while officers apprehended Surdo.

Bail documents state Surdo was allegedly found with drug utensils and two E-scooters police believed were stolen.

Officers allege Surdo was “highly affected” by drugs and even turned the wheel of the stolen car and actively encouraged Conte to drive away while an officer tried to arrest them.

During her bail application in court on Monday, duty lawyer Michael Robinson said one of the scooters she was found with was actually sold to her by her father.

Mr Robinson said the alleged incident was a “sorry tale” involving a man she met on Facebook, who was revealed to be Conte and now her co-accused.

The duty lawyer alleged Conte was more heavily charged while Surdo was more a party to the offences.

Conte was charged with 20 offences, including five counts of wilful damage, two of dangerous operation of a vehicle while adversely affected and one of serious assault with intent to resist arrest.

Surdo was charged with six offences including two counts of obstructing police, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and stealing.

Magistrate Rod Madsen looked at her history and said she only just received an intensive correction order from Beenleigh Magistrates Court on March 25.

Mr Robinson said the 32-year-old had “been a mess” in the last two weeks and recently buried her mother, and came to the coast for her funeral which is why the car was hired.

“Clearly she’s making bad decisions,” Mr Madsen said.

“It’s too little too late.”

He refused Surdo’s bail and adjourned her matter to July 10.

Conte did not apply for bail and had his matter adjourned as well.
