A young Sunshine Coast father-to-be walked free from custody after committing more than 30 offences while on a meth-fuelled crime spree.

Nambour teenager Noah Tipene Zion Pehi, 19, admitted to a months-long spree of break-ins, vehicle thefts, and fraudulent transactions, only stopping when he was remanded in custody.

His lawyer told the court Pehi, who has autism and an intellectual impairment, had been using ice with friends at the time but had since cleared his head in jail.

The court heard Pehi’s girlfriend was six months pregnant, with the teen hoping to rebuild his relationship with her and their child.

Acting magistrate Michael Bice acknowledged Pehi had support to move forward.

“Committing crime does not pay on any basis,” Mr Bice said.

Pehi was sentenced to 15 months in jail, with immediate parole.

A Caboolture father-of-three has avoided further jail time after crashing an unregistered, uninsured car into a creek bed while under the influence of meth and alcohol.

Troy Gordon Shields, 34, had just bought the car from Facebook Marketplace when he lost control on Image Flat Rd, sideswiping a parked vehicle, hitting a guardrail, and flipping onto its roof.

The court heard the car had false plates, a modified muffler, and faulty brakes, with police deeming the crash the result of “dangerous conduct”.

Shields, who has battled meth and alcohol addiction, had spent 111 days in custody before pleading guilty to multiple charges, including drug driving and dangerous operation of a vehicle.

His lawyer said he hoped to return to work as a glazier upon release.

Acting Magistrate Anna Smith sentenced him to eight months in jail, immediately suspended for 15 months, and disqualified him from driving for a year.

A Sunshine Coast mother avoided jail after failing to return two rental cars and claiming drugs found during a police raid were “multivitamins.”

Katelyn Jade Edwards, 28, was tracked to a Landsborough home after keeping a hire car weeks past its return date.

Police found the vehicle in the backyard, along with MDMA pills, meth, diazepam, and a glass pipe in her room.

A separate hire car she failed to return was also found at another property.

The court heard Edwards rear-ended a driver in Brisbane and left without providing her details.

Her lawyer said she had relapsed into drug use due to family struggles but had since turned her life around.

She pleaded guilty to eight charges and was placed on an 18-month probation order, fined $250, and had convictions recorded.

A Dicky Beach father has been sentenced to 14 months’ jail, immediately paroled, after scamming nearly $5000 from a victim in a Gumtree fraud.

Kaylem James Hine, 28, induced his victim to transfer money in seven transactions for a vehicle in November 2022, with some payments sent to his partner’s account before being transferred to himself. Almost two years later, the victim remains out of pocket.

Hine was later intercepted by police in April and tested positive for drugs, with a search of his car uncovering 4.29g of ice, drug paraphernalia, and scales.

His lawyer said he had been under financial stress at the time, battling a gambling addiction and drug use.

The court questioned character references calling Hine “trustworthy” and noted he had only managed to repay $400 of the stolen funds.

He pleaded guilty to multiple offences, receiving a $1000 fine, 60 hours of community service, and a four-month licence disqualification. The remainder of the fraud would be repaid through SPER.
