The case against a Caloundra West man who allegedly stabbed his neighbour several times with a hunting knife, putting him in intensive care, has been delayed further as police review the case.
Shaun Michael White, 42, is charged with attempted murder and enter premises and commit indictable offence.
Police will allege Mr White, who remains in custody, stabbed his neighbour in the backyard shed of the alleged victim’s Moreton Bay Dr, Caloundra West home on April 13, 2022.
The man was allegedly stabbed in the neck, chest and back with an eight centimetre hunting knife by Mr White, who then fled the scene.
Mr White later handed himself into police the following day.
Mr White was expected to have his mental health assessed after concerns were raised in July 2022 about his condition.
A report was ordered by the courts but is yet to be received.
Mr White’s solicitor, Patrick Meehan, told Maroochydore Magistrate’s Court on October 7, 2022, he’d sent the prosecution office an application to proceed with a registry committal “more than a week ago”.
The court heard delays were put down to the prosecution office deciding whether to proceed on other charges.
Mr White is also charged with a serious assault of a person over 60, which dates back more than six years ago, and a separate common assault charge.
Mr Meehan said the common assault matter, while separate from the attempted murder charge, allegedly involved the wife of the stabbing victim.
“ (Mr White) spurted the neighbours wife with some water with a hose,” he said.
“It’s evident that he had done this before the attempted murder … I believe the prosecution will deal with it separately.”
Magistrate Matthew McLaughlin adjourned all matters for further mention on October 28, 2022.
“With the other charge though what I’m going to do is place directions on the file that on the 28th the prosecution must make an election on the serious assault,” Mr McLaughlin said.
