Sean Alexander McCarthy in court for dropping pants at nightclub

A project manager has found himself in hot water after he pulled his pants down on a popular nightclub dance floor, with his next move getting him booted from the establishment.

A Sunshine Coast project manager who excelled in sport and started a charity has been fined for touching himself over clothes on a nightclub dance floor.

Sean Alexander McCarthy, 38, pleaded guilty in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on January 8 to one count of committing a public nuisance offence near licenced premises.

Police prosecutor Mark Burrell told the court on December 8, 2024 about 2.45am McCarthy had been inside the Parental Guidance Nightclub on Ocean St, Maroochydore.

While on the dancefloor surrounded by other patrons, McCarthy had dropped his pants, sat on the dancefloor and began playing with his genitalia, the court heard.

Sergeant Burrell said his actions caused other patrons to stray from the dancefloor and security kicked him out of the club.

Patrolling police saw McCarthy being removed from the premises, which ultimately led to his arrest.

Officers noticed his pants and belt were undone and he was slurring his speech, seemingly intoxicated.

The court was told McCarthy stated he had done nothing wrong and continued to argue with officers until he was led to a police vehicle.

Defence lawyer Fleur Cardell told the court McCarthy had worked in the construction industry for most of his life, most recently taking on a project manager role.

An avid sportsman in the past, Ms Cardell also made mention of McCarthy’s time as a coach and founder of his own charity.

She told the court her client had been drinking on the night and no nudity was involved as his underwear remained on.

He was fined $550 and no conviction was recorded.
