A Sunshine Coast mum who blew more than four times the legal blood alcohol limit has been found snoring in the back of a cop car after she caused a serious car accident.

A Buderim mother who blew more than four times the legal limit after launching her car into the air and crashing it has been taken off the road.
Penelope Jane Brand, 40, was disqualified from driving for eight months and fined $650 after she pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday August 12, 2022.
Police prosecutor Phil Stephens said motorists saw the Buderim woman’s car launch into the air at the intersection of Feeley St and Lindsay Rd in Buderim about 8.30pm on July 14, 2022.
The court heard her Volkswagen Golf had crashed into an oncoming lane and mounted the footpath before clipping a tree during its “out of control” drive, causing “carnage”.
Sergeant Stephens said when police arrived they found broken vehicle parts strewn across the road and saw Brand laying on her back on the footpath.
Brand had to be helped into the police car by two officers because she was so drunk, before she fell asleep in the back and snored, the court heard.
The court was told a roadside breath test returned a blood-alcohol content reading of 0.223 per cent.
Sergeant Stephens said when she was transported to the police station it was determined she was too drunk to submit for further breath testing.
Brand represented herself in court and said this incident was out of character for her and said she had mixed spinal surgery medication with alcohol that evening.
The 40-year-old said she was a mum and recently had a breakdown of a relationship.
Acting Magistrate Raelene Ellis said Brand was lucky no one was injured or killed due to her reading.
No conviction was recorded.
