A man will face court following a frightening incident at a Sunshine Coast state school, where he was detained by members of the public before being arrested by police.
It’s alleged that an incident took place between a 44-year-old man and a student of a state school at Buderim prior to the start of classes yesterday, Thursday, March 14.
Following the disturbance, the student reportedly fled from the man who reportedly followed them onto school grounds.
It is then alleged that the man picked up several students before putting them back down on the ground.
The alleged terrifying act was witnessed by teachers and parents who forced the man off school grounds and contacted police.
Members of the public detained the man prior to the arrival of police, who arrested the man.
The 44-year-old man will face charges of trespass and wilful disturbance in court next month.
A Department of Education spokeswoman said that support will be provided to staff and students at the school.
“The safety of students and staff is the Department’s highest priority and all members of the school community have a right to feel safe at school,” the spokeswoman said.
“(The school) will provide support to staff and students as required following an alleged incident on school grounds yesterday morning.
“As the matter is now before the courts, the department is unable to provide any further comment.”
