Queensland's confronting road safety campaign

The actions of a father and son who helped save the life of a young man left for dead in a hit and run incident at Little Mountain have been praised by police.

A 29-year-old Meridan Plains man was found lying on the road after he had been struck by a vehicle while riding an electric skateboard about 11.30pm Tuesday.

The man remained at Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition days after the incident.

The Forensic Crash Unit launched inquiries in relation to the vehicle and driver believed to be involved in the Parkview Drive incident.

The unit’s acting Sergeant Evan Condon said the victim sustained significant injuries including a fractured skull and compound leg fractures.

While the man was expected to recover Sergeant Condon said it could easily have been worse.

“It’s very fortunate the victim was able to have the witnesses and emergency services attend within a very short amount of time and rendered assistance,” Sergeant Condon said.

“They assisted the patient and cared for him. Both he and his dad went down.

“Sometimes it’s as simple as comforting a person or making a phone call.

“Basic common sense and first aid can really assist victims.”

Little Mountain resident Joel Ashton told 7 News Sunshine Coast that he and his father rushed to the man’s aid.

Mr Ashton said he had heard a “massive” bang and saw a vehicle take off.

“We saw him lying on the road bleeding from the head and leg,” Mr Ashton said.

“We assisted him and the ambulance officers in putting him in the stretcher.

“It didn’t look good for him at all he was just laying in a pool of blood.”

Sergeant Condon said police were still making inquiries into the incident.

He said it was an offence for a driver to leave the scene.

“The driver would know they hit something … we need to speak with the driver and vehicle’s owner,” he said.

“It is an offence to leave the scene of a traffic crash.

“People who leave the scene of crashes will be investigated by police and may be prosecuted.”

Investigators have urged anyone who travelled on or near Parkview Drive between 10.30pm and 11.30pm on Tuesday to come forward.

Anyone with CCTV or dashcam vision from the area that may be able to assist with investigations is also urged to talk to police or make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers.
