A teenager who fell into a fad of taking xanax and drinking alcohol with juveniles was busted climbing into yards in a Sunshine Coast suburb.

Kye Benjamin Parkin, 18, pleaded guilty in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on July 22 to committing an indictable offence by stealing, trespass and attempting to enter a dwelling at night.

Police prosecutor Michael Quirk told the court of the first incident that occurred in the car park of a Domino’s on April 6.

He said the victim had placed their pizza order in the car and was sitting in the driver’s seat when Parkin had reached into an open window, over a toddler sitting in the back seat, and took two of her pizzas.

The woman had feared for her and her child’s safety.

The court heard almost two months later on June 2 Parkin and a juvenile co-offender had jumped the fence of a Sippy Downs property about 1.45am.

The pair had quickly retreated when they heard dogs barking but tried their luck at a second property also in Sippy Downs.

Mr Quirk said a security light had turned on and were spotted by the property owner when they encroached on the patio and attempted to slide open the back door.

The court heard the property owner had chased the pair down the street and caught the juvenile offender and restrained him until police arrived.

Defence lawyer Rachel Holland said the 18-year-old’s parents were “sick” of their son’s offending and him “ basically doing nothing”.

The court heard Parkin had recently been in the company of a group of juveniles.

“Unfortunately they are all in this current cohort where they think it is cool to consume xanax and drink alcohol and they don’t remember half of the stuff they are doing,” Ms Holland said.

Magistrate Rod Madsen sentenced him to 12 months of probation and no convictions were recorded.
