A Glass House Mountains man who was in custody for allegedly strangling a woman has been denied bail after being accused of sending threats to a Supreme Court judge.

Jacob James Cordie, 35, made an unsuccessful application for bail in mid-July 2022 on six charges including two counts of wilful damage and choking, stemming from an incident on February 9, 2022 in the Glasshouse Mountains.

Police will allege Mr Cordie allegedly grabbed a woman from behind in a car and placed his arm around her neck, obstructing her breathing for five seconds.

It’s further alleged by police Mr Cordie damaged the vehicle they were travelling in.

Maroochydore Magistrates Court heard there were several witness statements given to police along with body worn police camera footage and photographs of the alleged victim’s injuries.

Mr Cordie represented himself via video link from the watch house and had no witnesses to cross examine during his committal handup.

Magistrate Graham Hillan committed those matters to the higher court, with Mr Cordie saying in reply the alleged strangulation was an “emergency situation”.

Mr Cordie then applied for bail, telling Mr Hillan there had been a change of circumstances as his mental health had improved on new medication.

Police prosecutor Jeanette Gregoris told the court Mr Cordie was still an unacceptable risk on bail as he had allegedly sent threats to a Supreme Court Judge while on remand for his choking charge.

Mr Hillan agreed with police and refused Mr Cordie’s bail application.

His choking charge was adjourned to the Maroochydore District Court for a date to be determined.

Mr Cordie’s other charges of wilful damage, stealing, possessing drugs and trespassing were adjourned to November 4, 2022.
