A woman who was arrested on dangerous driving and drug charges has appeared before a Sunshine Coast court.
Georgia Marie Allen, 20, shielded her face from view from the public gallery for most of her bail application in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on March 22.
She is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving without a licence disqualified by court order, driving a defective vehicle, possessing drug utensils and possessing dangerous drugs.
She has not entered a plea.
The court was told the alleged offending came within the context of abusing drugs.
Prosecutor James Allen told the court Ms Allen had been disqualified from driving three days before she was allegedly caught dangerously driving.
He said Ms Allen put the community at risk through her manner of driving and not being able to get her drug use under control.
Lawyer Jaimee Burns said it was not justified to keep her client in custody and that she had a bail address near Ipswich.
She told the court her client was previously couch surfing and between addresses, but had since reconnected with her family and would return to the family home.
Ms Burns said her client did not have a drug addiction, but understood her drug use was problematic.
“I’m instructed she is essentially using it to self-medicate,” she said.
Ms Allen’s experience spending a night in the watchhouse had reinforced the seriousness of her actions, Ms Burns said, and her client was now determined not to go back into custody.
Ms Burns said her client had also been given a referral to a drug, alcohol and mental health support program by Gympie police.
Magistrate Kurt Fowler granted Ms Allen bail.
She will return to the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on April 19.
