A “refreshing” new venue is set to open up in Maroochydore next month, with the owners hopeful a diverse variety of gins and vodka will help bring more families and locals out to the party precinct.

The team behind the Buderim Distilling Co announced their upcoming opening on Ocean st on social media last month, much to the delight of local gin-enthusiasts.

The venue, equipped with an onsite distil, will take over the site of former Latino bar, Alma.

Venue manager, Stephanie Phelps, said the distillery will be first venue opened by Sunshine Coast friends, Trent McEvoy and Hayden Mokaraka.

“At first the plan was to open in Buderim but the lease on Ocean St just seemed like the perfect spot to open up a bar that would really showcase the gin and vodka,” Ms Phelps said.

“There will be all your basic gins, but I think the most popular will be this new citrus gin we’ve created, it is incredible.”

Ms Phelps said the venue will aim to cater for everyone, including those looking for a more relaxed Ocean St spot and families.

“We just think it such a different idea for the Sunshine Coast, in that area in particular, while there a few other distilleries further out, there is nothing at the moment that is so central to everything,” Ms Phelps said.

“We want it to be something on Ocean St for older people as well, not just for people looking to go out Friday and Saturday night, this venue will be welcoming of families as well.”

Ms Phelps said the venue will offer taste testings, share plates for groups to enjoy and a wide selection of cocktails, all locally-sourced.

“A lot of people like to buy and consume locally-sourced products, all of our ingredients will be from the local fruit suppliers to keep everything unique to the Sunshine Coast, it really adds to the experience,” MS Phelps said.

The Buderim Distilling Co is expected to open early next month.
