Opinion
Don't miss out on the headlines from Opinion. Followed categories will be added to My News.
WE ARE constantly made aware of the "bullying” epidemic that is so prevalent in our society, much of it attributed to the presence of social media and the existence of so many cameras associated with modern communication.
On many occasions a reminder of where we can obtain help with the publication of contact numbers for Lifeline etc being broadcast when the issue of suicide is covered.

The top TV shows we can't wait to see in our homes such as My Kitchen Rules and Married At First Sight bring the worst out of people with spitefulness, lies, vanity, and just plain rudeness that foster exactly the personal reactions that will unfortunately put at risk some people who are experiencing some mental issues in their life.
Yes, they do not need to watch these type of shows, but with the regular promos showing the worst confrontations, whispering etc like schoolkids, can be a trigger to those at risk.
The TV standards people who oversee these type of programs should consider the content of their promotions.
And in some cases the timing of their programs, to avoid younger viewers, particularly, who we know are at risk when it comes to the way they perceive their own lives and self-esteem issues.
