Enough is enough: Justice for Breonna is overdue

I don’t believe my view as a white woman can truly articulate the racial injustice people of colour face each day.

SOAPBOX:

I HAVE a lot of opinions.

And while this could be the appropriate space to share those, I don't believe my view as a white woman can truly articulate the racial injustice people of colour face each day.

Instead, I'd like to dedicate these words to Breonna Taylor.

It was March when the 26-year-old EMT was killed inside her own apartment.

Louisville police officers used a battering ram to crash into Breonna's home at midnight and after a brief confrontation, the young woman was shot by the police at least eight times.

A judge signed a warrant allowing the police to search her residence, with officers believing Breonna was involved in a drug-related case.

No drugs were found.

The warrant allowed the police to enter without warning or without identifying themselves as law enforcement.

Breonna's boyfriend said he shot at police in self-defence, believing that someone was trying to break into her home.

It was then Breonna's life was taken before it even began.

To this day, no justice for her death has been achieved.

Sleeping inside your house as an innocent person is just another fear black people face.

Whether you're a Black Lives Matter supporter or not, the details of Breonna's case should anger you.

And if it doesn't … please tell us again how all lives matter.
