A 27-year-old man will face court this morning charged with the assault of a 69-year-old man as police continue to investigate a fatal attack on a man, 87, on Sunday morning.

A 27-year-old man will face court this morning charged with the serious assault of a man, 69, on Hastings St, as police continue to probe a fatal attack on an 87-year-old man about the same time.
A 27-year-old Gympie man was charged by Sunshine Coast detectives, as they continue to probe the fatal attack of an elderly man while on his morning walk on the boardwalk near Noosa Woods about 6am Sunday, June 18.
The men aged 69 and 87 were understood not to have been known to each other.
It was understood the attack on the 69-year-old man happened before the fatal attack which claimed the life of the 87-year-old man.
Police are investigating whether or not the two incidents are linked.
Investigations are continuing into the fatal attack.
Bystanders had rushed to help the man, who had suffered significant facial injuries, but he tragically died at the scene.
Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have seen a man naked, or in various stages of undress, near the northern end of Hastings St or walking into the Noosa Woods pathways between 5am and 7am Sunday to contact them.
The 27-year-old man was due to face Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday, June 19.
