A 4WD has been seized by Noosa police after it was allegedly used to perform doughnuts at Teewah Beach over the weekend.

Noosa police station officer-in-charge Ben Carroll said a joint enforcement effort from Noosa Heads and Gympie Road Policing Units issued 13 offenders with infringements and notices to appear in court.

Senior Sergeant Carroll said the alleged owner of the 4WD will be forced to pay a minimum $3243.40 to retrieve it after the 90-day seizure period.

It comes after several issues at the popular camping hotspot over the past year including many near misses and fatal crashes.

Last year police charged a 19-year-old man over an early morning crash that killed an 18-year-old man.

The issues triggered calls for authorities to ‘send a message’ on beach driving.

Senior Sergeant Carroll said at the weekend police performed 58 random breath tests which found five people over the limit.

He said 13 offenders were issued court notices for drink driving, dangerous operation of a vehicle and disqualified driving.

“Multiple infringement notices were also issued for defective vehicles, failing to display P-plates, modified exhausts, and lighting fires under QPWS legislation,” he said.

He said the issues were being caused by a minority of campers.

Senior Sergeant Carroll said in a separate incident, police had identified a group of juveniles they believed were responsible for several break-ins in the district.

He said the group were aged between 14 and 16 and came up from Brisbane on July 29 in an allegedly stolen car.

Senior Sergeant Carroll said the group allegedly stole a Toyota Kluger and an Audi SQ5 from the Noosa Sound area overnight.

He said the vehicles were located in Woodridge days later.

A white Mercedes which the group allegedly used to reach the Sunshine Coast sustained major damage to its interior.
