A TENANCY within a neighbourhood shopping centre has been leased to a locally owned and operated Buderim café, after a well-known coffee franchise previously failed to gain momentum in the centre.
Mint Café (T8) opened its doors on April 1, with a stream of locals buzzing to get their coffee fix from the Buderim Marketplace based business.
The lease of the 28sq m tenancy plus additional 20sq m licensed area was negotiated by Peter Capps of Savills on a seven-year term with two options of five years.
The deal was struck at a rate of $1166sq m net per annum plus GST over the total 48sq m combined areas.
Savills leasing executive Peter Capps attended the café's opening day, and said locals made comments comparing the unique offering to a café that would likely be found in Sydney.
"Mint Café reached capacity with customers constantly coming in throughout the day, and the café has continued to perform strongly each day since its opening," Mr Capps said.
The tenant was provided with lessor works and an agreed incentive to open, as they were the original owner of the coffee chain franchise that was previously unsuccessful in the Buderim Marketplace.
"After the previous coffee house failed, the local market was looking forward to the new operator to re-establish their business,'' Mr Capps said.
"It's great to see locals supporting local businesses, and judging from the strong trade since opening we anticipate the café will do very well."
