A Little Mountain heavy machinery operator has faced court for a choking attack on a woman that caused her to hyperventilate.

Nathan John Friske was given 18 months’ prison suspended for 18 months after pleading guilty to one count of choking in Maroochydore District Court on July 19, 2022.

Crown prosecutor Sanaz Masoumi said on August 20, 2021, at 7pm Friske argued with a woman who tried to walk away from him.

He pushed his forehead against hers and yelled in her face.

She repeatedly told Friske to “get out of her face” but he continued and she couldn't move.

Ms Masoumi said the woman spat in Friske’s face and he grabbed her and pinned her down.

Friske rolled the victim onto her back and climbed on top of her, placing his left arm around her throat and pushing hard, choking her.

“She felt enormous pressure on her windpipe and gasped for air … she began to panic and started to hyperventilate,” Ms Masoumi said.

Ms Masoumi said Friske was “enraged” and put his arm against her throat, screaming at her to stop.

Friske pushed himself up using her neck as a brace and stood up before the victim told him to leave.

She made a complaint to police at a later date and Friske was charged.

Defence solicitor Lachlan Cramb said his client had been doing FIFO-type work operating heavy machinery near Childers.

“He’s shown remorse and co-operated with police,” Mr Cramb said.

A conviction was recorded.
