Sunshine Coast parents have shared their fears of watching their children jump off a Noosa bridge after a man died in a horrible misadventure on the weekend.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said they received a report at 1am on Sunday a male in his early 30s had jumped off a Noosa Sound Bridge on Noosa Pde and had not resurfaced.

Police divers were deployed to search for the man in the Noosa River and his body was located at 6am, the spokeswoman said.

It is understood the man, believed to be a tourist, was one of several who were jumping from the bridge while others looked on.

He had jumped once and returned to the bridge to jump again, but slipped as he stepped over the railing and hit his head on the way down.

When he did not resurface, his friends frantically searched the water for him before calling emergency services.

Police, paramedics and firefighters all arrived on scene before a local boat operator used sonar equipment to find the man’s body.

Police divers pulled him from the water.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said paramedics attended the scene after receiving the call at 1.15am but the man was unable to be located at the time.

Sunshine Coast locals have taken to social media to share their deepest condolences following the horrific tragedy.

“So tragic thoughts with families and friends and to the innocent persons that found him,” Dani Charnock said.

“A leap of faith. Safe to say this is every mother’s nightmare having kids growing up in Noosa,” Simone Wetherell said.

“ I reckon 90 per cent of kids have jumped off that bridge.

“I feel for this man’s family and friends.”

“Such a tragedy,” Lee Fourie said.

“Just how quickly having fun can turn into tragedy. So sad to hear,” Debbie Callanan said.
