A new pilates studio on the Sunshine Coast has opened only three months after an “entrepreneurial” couple launched their first gym in Maroochydore.

Kitti and Nick Lancaster, 29, opened Performax Pilates at Bokarina on July 6 after running a home studio for more than two years.

The couple opened Performax Science - offering Allied Health services in-house - only three months prior on March 25 this year.

The services include exercise physiology, physiotherapy and dietetics on top of their 24/7 gym.

Ms Lancaster said Performax Pilates had gained about 200 new clients in the past week as one of the first businesses open in the area.

The studio tailors plans for each individual client, from children up to people in their 90s, she said.

The new studio had been a long time coming after having built a client base and planning the opening for five years.

Ms Lancaster said it “feels so good” to finally have opened the new establishment but the couple are already looking for another location to open a third this year.

The biggest challenge for the couple would be to continue educating their staff to help them reach their personal and professional goals whilst expanding to provide “the best service on the Coast.”

Ms Lancaster said many people in the fitness industry who complete their studies go on to simply host sessions for their whole career so her business aims to “build and support” her community to give staff great opportunities.

She recalled her husband had worked as an exercise scientist after finishing his studies and, after observing his work, did not feel like she was “contributing to a greater purpose” in a former marketing role.

Both being active people, she decided she wanted to help people through the fitness industry with her husband.

The couple have both lived on the Sunshine Coast their whole lives and saw a need to give back to the region.

Ms Lancaster said the gym in Maroochydore had cost them $1.3m out of their own cash and the studio had cost about $200,000.

The couple operated their exercise physiology business in varying gyms for about seven years before opening their own.
