Danny Simmonds opens new Dons Sangas on Sunshine Coast

The businessman behind cult coast classics such as Criminal Coffee, Walt’s Diner, and Toast Office has now opened his second speciality sandwich shop.

The businessman behind cult coast classics such as Criminal Coffee, Walt’s Diner, and Toast Office has now opened his second speciality sandwich shop – following the astounding success of Don Sangas at Mooloolaba.

Danny Simmonds, 33, of Buderim, rebranded the Toast Office store to Dongas Sangas in April and now has opened a second store.

The second Dongas Sangas is across from Sunshine Coast University Hospital at Birtinya.

“I just felt like there was something missing in terms of fresh sandwich vibes on the Sunshine Coast,” Mr Simmonds said.

“I’ve been here for 15 years and we have Subway but that’s it. I saw the success with the toasties from Criminal Coffee but with this concept it’s a lot quicker and goes along with the times. People now prefer to eat outside and have picnics on the weekend with fresh food.

“Nothing above $20 and no longer than a seven minute wait for anything.”

Mr Simmonds and his head chef Jake Whitaker also have plans to open a third Don Sangas in Noosa and create a franchise.

“I believe there’s a big growth spurt happening in Birtinya and the hospital is on the brink of employing another 2000 staff,” he said.

“There’s no food up or down this street either it’s all cabinet food. We’re the only ones fortunate enough to have a kitchen.”

The menu featured classics such as a ham and cheese and reuben, along with a vegerama option, and the favourite at Mooloolaba, the hale caesar.

Don Sangas is open Monday to Friday from 6am-4pm.
