A large engineering company based on the Sunshine Coast for more than a decade has entered liquidation revealing an estimated $2.8m Australian Taxation Office debt.

Sunshine Coast company, Heka Diprose Pty Ltd, which traded as Heka Group, appointed liquidator Dane Hammond to the company on Thursday, February 22, 2024.

Australian Securities and Investments Commission documents seen by this publication showed Jason Scott Diprose held the positions of director and secretary of the Heka Diprose Pty Ltd since the company began in the Sunshine Coast in 2008.

The ASIC documents also showed the Heka Group operated from the Kunda Park address since 2017, having previously been based at two Maroochydore addresses.

The company specialises in metal fabrication and protective coatings, according to the Heka Group website, and is the largest engineering company on the Sunshine Coast.

In the report on company activities and property published on ASIC, a number of creditors are identified as being owed money by the Heka Group.

The largest debt is owed to the ATO for an estimated $2.85m, according to the report published on ASIC.

The report also stated a further estimated $1m was owed to various creditors.

The Heka Group is estimated to be owed an estimated $1.3m, according to the documents.

Mr Hammond said the company had been impacted by industry pressures and other “high-profile” company administrations.

“Industry pressures and the knock-on impact of some recent high-profile external administrations have certainly played a role in the financial position confronted by the Heka group of companies,” Mr Hammond said.

Mr Hammond said investigations into the trading of the Heka Group were ongoing as more information is gathered.

“Given the early stages of the appointment, our focus is still on gathering the necessary information to investigate the company’s affairs. I cannot comment further on investigations at the current time,” Mr Hammond said.

A property data search on Mr Diprose’s residential address, provided in ASIC documents, revealed the Heka Group director resides in a $1.9m waterfront home.
