Greg Brown: Palmwoods dad, contractor mourned after fatal workplace fall

A Sunshine Coast grandfather and contractor who was the “life of the party” has been mourned by his wife of 30 years after his sudden death following a workplace fall.

Tradie tragedy: why construction workers need safer worksites

The larrikin personality of a Palmwoods grandad who tragically died after falling at a Nambour workplace will be remembered by his wife as she mourns her husband’s sudden passing.

Gregory Brown, 54, was working at a Mill Ln business about 3pm on July 14, 2022 when he fell between 5-10m from a roof, suffering critical head injuries.

He was rushed to Sunshine Coast University Hospital but sadly passed away.

In the days since his tragic death his wife Kerry Brown has reminisced on their “fairytale” marriage after the pair celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in April, 2022.

“He came home that day with some flowers from the BP servo and that was just Greg,” Mrs Brown said.

“Greg thought it was hilarious and so did I and that’s who we were, we didn’t need the bells and whistles, we just needed each other.

“He’s going to be in my heart forever, along with all of the memories and happy times.”

The Palmwoods couple first met 35 years ago while travelling in London, with the Sydney-born Mr Brown falling in love with his wife instantly.

Mr Brown would call the Sunshine Coast home after returning to Australia with his wife where he worked as a contractor and the pair raised three children and became grandparents.

Mrs Brown said her soulmate “lived the life of a young man” and loved his footy, motorbike riding and barefoot skiing.

“He was always the life of the party,” she said.

Mrs Brown said her husband’s greatest joy was his three children and his grandson who was born just three months ago.

“In the days before he died my daughter sent some videos and he would just watch them over and over again, and he would laugh every time,” she said.

“As tough as he was, he just loved that little boy, and I’ll make sure I have lots of stories to tell our grandkids about their grandad.”

Mr Brown is survived by his wife Kerry and their three children Ben, Cassy, and Georgie.

A special funeral service for Mr Brown will be held at the Palmwoods Hotel on Friday July 22, 2022, which was the family’s local.
