Family's sold on the Coast as perfect location

A COAST family used to make the one-hour, traffic-frenzied trip to the Sunshine Coast almost daily, because they loved it here.

So, one day they decided to buy into the magic.

Fifteen years later, a Woombye family - the Delahaye's - still say the Sunshine Coast in the best place in Australia.

Mum Michelle said her family used to drive from their Redcliffe home often to the Coast, and spend most of the day at the beaches.

However, the mother of three said the Coast had so much more to offer than sand and water.

"It does feel very safe here,” she said.

"I feel much better about my kids walking around here then I would if we were still in Brisbane.”

The registered nurse said she was surprised to hear that the Sunshine Coast had the most affordable housing comparable to people's incomes, as revealed in the 2017 National Cities Performance Framework report.

"People pay more to live in places like the Sunshine Coast,” she said.

"Because you are right on the beach and only a short drive away from the hinterland.

"There's fantastic schooling here and such a friendly environment... so the coast of living isn't always affordable.

"But it makes sense to buy rather than to rent.”

She said the Coast's only downfall was the lack of employment opportunities.

"Of course, I want my kids to grow up and live here - but sometimes I wonder if they will be able to get jobs, there doesn't seem to be enough.

"But I am glad they get to experience this beautiful environment.”
