A small silver caravan named “Gypsy,” holding irreplaceable sentimental value, has been stolen from a family in Berrinba, Logan, with reported sightings in the Sunshine Coast area.
The caravan, a 1952 Carapark, went missing early on Wednesday, November 6, and its owners have made a heartfelt plea for its safe return.
Kiya May, the daughter of the caravan owners, posted an emotional appeal on social media, sharing how the caravan was especially meaningful as it contained her late brother’s ashes and cherished family mementos, with its value deeply connected to his memory.
“She is my parent's pride and joy, please bring her home,” Ms May said.
“My mum is shattered.”
She described “Gypsy” as having unique engravings that made it instantly recognisable to them.
“It was stolen from my parents' factory. It was taken by someone cutting the chain on the gates,” Ms May said.
“The CCTV footage was in the rear staff car parks. The next day my father became aware because the fire exit was left open.”
The footage shows the ute slowly reversing through the gates, driving towards the trailer before the driver exits, attaches the caravan, and drives back out, all in about three and a half minutes.
The man, who appears to be wearing a face covering, is also described as having a half-leg tattoo on his left leg.
The caravan was last spotted on Green Fern Drive in Berrinba on Thursday and was reportedly seen traveling southbound between Yandina and Caloundra the following day.
According to witnesses, a caravan matching the description was reportedly sighted in a car park near Aussie World, where it appeared to be loaded onto a tow truck.
“Gypsy has no use to anyone but my family,” Ms May said.
“Please bring her home.”
The family has offered a $2000 reward for information that leads to the caravan’s return, with “no questions asked”.
Queensland Police confirmed the theft, stating that the caravan was taken from the Berrinba address around 3.45am on Wednesday, and remained missing.
“Investigations are ongoing,” a Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said.
The family hopes the public can assist in locating the caravan.
